Awesome pets competition and video

Posted on 20 October 2015

There’s no welcome like a dog’s welcome

A dog’s sheer delight at every homecoming helps make them Britain’s most popular pet, closely followed by the nation’s other favourite companion, the rather more aloof cat.

Puppy eyes break your heart when you leave and you wonder how they’ll ever cope without you. Wonder no more! To celebrate the launch of our straightforward new Pet Insurance just for cats and dogs, watch this video of a truly unique welcome home specially prepared for one rather stunned dog owner.

The video’s loosely based on (un)true events and actors have been used to protect the identities of the dogs involved. No animals were harmed in the making of this video, not counting the freezing cold wash down with the garden hose afterwards.

Pet stars

Meet the stars

Yoko the Yorkshire Terrier - one of the video’s stars

Name: Yoko Breed: Yorkshire Terrier

Age: A lady never discusses her age.

Big break: I was in a grooming salon having a pawdicure when I caught the eye of the director Steven Spielbark.

Favourite food: Eating healthily is an important part of my beauty routine. I have a light lunch of sushi fed to me by my PH (Pawsernal Human).

Hobbies: I’m a big fan of Doga (doggie Yoga) and enjoy beauty treatments in my home spa.

Best part of being famous: I don’t have to walk on pavements anymore. I insist on being carried everywhere.

Aston the Samoyed - one of the video’s stars chewing on a rope toy

Name: Aston

Breed: Samoyed

Age: Still got all of my own teeth.

Big break: I auditioned for the role of Chewbacca in Star Wars. I lost out to a really tall human in a hairy suit but George Lucas used me for the wookie’s voice.

Favourite food: Anything chewy. Bones. Toilet rolls. Slippers. I’m not fussy.

Hobbies: Chewing. Tugging. Pulling. Did I mention chewing? I really like chewing.

Best part of being famous: I don’t like to think of myself as famous. I’m just a regular dog who gets free chew toys these days.

Jake the Pomeranian - one of the video’s stars

Name: Jake

Breed: Pomeranian

Age: Old enough to be truly in touch with my inner dog.

Big break: My exceptional talents were apparent from a young age. I believe success was my destiny and through intensive meditation I have brought it to bear.

Favourite food: Lentils and alfalfa sprouts. Although the humans I share my space with say they don’t agree with me for some reason.

Hobbies: I give a lot of time to charity working closely with my good friend Bono.

Best part of being famous: Knowing I’m a role model and inspiration to thousands of ordinary dogs far less gifted than me is very humbling.
