Our tips for a straightforward and affordable Christmas
Wouldn’t it be nice if Christmas was just that bit more straightforward and affordable? Or should we say, straightfordable?
So here it is… Merry Christmas… everybody’s having fun. Office parties are in full swing; the tinsel’s been freed from the loft and Slade’s never out of earshot. It should be time to celebrate but instead we’re working harder than one of Santa’s elves, the list of presents is growing rather than shrinking – and the Christmas dinner isn’t going to make itself.
That’s why we’re serving up our Straightfordable Days of Christmas. Over the coming days we’ll be giving you more tips than you can fill your stockings with. Here are just a few to get you started:
1. Find new homes for unwanted presents
Just what you’ve always wanted? No. Then swapping your presents or giving them a new home could work a treat. No money wasted and no future jumble gathering dust.
2. Family secret Santa
Rather than buy for every member of the family, why not buy one big present, a game or activity day perhaps, and get them bonding again. Or put names in a hat and do things secret santa style.
3. Family photo and newsletter
Snap a Christmassy family photo and remind everyone what you look like. Or go the whole hog and create a family newsletter or video to share the year’s news. It’s fun, it’s free and it’s a chance to be just a little bit smug as well!
4. Skype call
Don’t say it with a Christmas card, say it in person on Skype. Open your presents in front of your rellies down under, or sing a carol to your granny – all in real time.
5. Make your own presents
Whether you’re nifty with the knitting needles, or a dab hand with the cookie dough, making gifts will save you cash and give you a warm glow.
