It’s important to all of us here at SunLife that we do business responsibly. That includes adding to the community around us, minimising our impact on the environment, and giving our people and our customers the respect they deserve.
Supporting the community
We believe that businesses should be part of the communities around them: doing their best to add value and get involved.
That’s why we actively encourage our people to take part in a wide range of activities to support the local community – from fundraising for local and national charities to donating time to be a local school governor. We also make it possible to make tax-free donations to charities directly from our salaries through our GAYE scheme.
Through 2016 and 2017 we have partnered with Jessie May Trust. We have chosen this charity in the South West which offers hospice at home care for terminally ill children, and support their work with our fundraising activities.
Working in the Community
Our volunteering scheme is another way to make sure we’re contributing to the community around us. Our teams choose where they spend their time, and on what kind of projects – there’s really no limit.
Everyone has their own talent and passion, so we’re happy to see our people volunteer to benefit local people, pets and parks. Some of the things we get up to include dog walking, tree planting, cemetery clearing and a spot of DIY – indoors and out.
Respecting the environment
It’s important to every one of us that we minimise the negative impact that our business may have on the environment.
That’s why, in 2017, we linked in with the Woodland Trust and are currently implementing a range of ongoing initiatives that will help us to reduce our carbon footprint.
Looking after our people
Our people and the culture we create together are the building blocks of our business. We make sure that every member of our team has opportunities for personal growth and development, so that they’re fulfilled and ready to provide an excellent service.
We ask our people to give us regular feedback on how we’re doing and we work with our Employee Consultation Forum to make sure that the views and opinions of all our people are represented.
A number of health and wellbeing schemes and rewards programmes are open to everyone in the business. And we have a great group of people who organise social activities for the business. These range from our most recent Bumble (a town-wide quiz/treasure hunt) to a little ‘surprise and delight’ each month.
Caring about our customers
Our customers are the heart of our business.
That’s why we have robust policies in place, follow ethical practices, and work diligently to offer the right products to the right people.
We’re proud to work closely with regulators and governing bodies, and help drive positive change within our industry.
