What's covered?

Uninsured driver promise If you make a claim because your car is damaged in an accident that is proven to be the fault of an uninsured motorist, the excess amount will be refunded. You will need to provide the vehicle registration, make and model of the 3rd party vehicle when you make the claim.

Vandalism promise If your car is damaged through vandalism, the excess amount will be refunded.

Personal accident Cover up to £10,000 per incident.

Medical expenses Cover up to £200 per person.

Car audio and entertainment equipment You’ll have unlimited cover if the equipment was originally fitted at the point of manufacture. If it was not fitted by the manufacturer, you’ll have cover up to £500.

Personal belongings Cover up to £150.

Replacement locks Cover up to £500 in the event your keys are stolen.

Travelling abroad You’ll be covered for up to 60 days travelling within the EU and selected countries, to the level you’re insured for in the UK.

Child seat cover Cover up to £300.

Emergency transport and accommodation Cover for £100 per person and up to £500 in total.

Glass damage You’ll have unlimited cover if the repairs or replacements are carried out by one of BISL Limited’s suppliers. If they are carried out by your own supplier, you’ll have cover up to £150. There is an excess of £75 for replacement, regardless of whether you’re using approved or 3rd party repairers.

New Car Benefit If you have a vehicle that is less than 12 months old and the cost of repairs to your car is worth more than 50% of the cost of buying an identical new car at the time of your claim, you will receive a replacement car of the same make, model and specification.

Liability to others If you are involved in an accident which causes death or bodily injury, you will have unlimited cover. If you are involved in an accident which causes damage to someone else’s property, you will have cover up to £20,000,000.

What type of cover could I get?

SunLife Car Insurance offers comprehensive cover, third party only and third party, fire and theft. Comprehensive cover is the highest level of cover available in the UK. It provides cover for injuries to other people and damage to their vehicles, your vehicle being damaged, stolen or destroyed in a fire, medical expenses and accidental damage, the cost of replacing your vehicle’s contents. Third party, fire and theft covers Loss or damage to the car and its accessories caused by fire, theft or attempted theft. Third party only covers damage caused to other vehicles.

What is a policy excess?

An excess is the amount that you have to pay if you make a claim. There are two types of excess:

  1. Compulsory excess This is a fixed amount which you'll have to pay if you make a claim. We’ll pay out the remaining amount to cover your damage or theft.
  2. Voluntary excess This is an amount that you agree to pay on top of your compulsory excess. You may pay a lower premium if you agree to pay a voluntary excess.
How do I make changes to my policy?

You can view your policy online and make changes by logging into our Online Self Service Centre. Or if you prefer, you can call on 0330 018 2886 directly. Lines are open: Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm, including public holidays. Saturday 9am to 5pm and Sunday 10am to 4pm. There will be a £20 amendment fee for any changes made.

How can I make a claim?

Can I insure two cars at the same time?

You can insure two or more cars at the same time but you would need to buy separate policies for each car as we do not offer multi-car insurance. If you have a no claims discount, you can only use it on one vehicle at a time. If it’s already in use on one vehicle, you will need to start at 0 on the other vehicle.

Am I insured to drive someone else's car using this policy?

If you are the main policyholder named on the insurance certificate, you might be able to drive someone else’s car using this policy. You’ll need to check the wording on your certificate of insurance to see if it is shown there. If it is, you will be covered for third party only and you must have the permission from the owner of the other vehicle and it must have a valid insurance policy. If it is not mentioned, this means that you are not insured to drive someone else’s car using your policy.
