• Get £300 toward your funeral costs

If you are planning to use the cash sum from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan to pay towards your funeral, why not add the Funeral Benefit Option to your plan at no extra cost. It's a great way to help those you care about by putting some plans in place for your funeral.

When the time comes, your cash sum will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limited and a Dignity Funeral Director will take care of the arrangements.

Plus, to help your family even more, there will be an additional £300 contribution from Dignity towards the final cost of your funeral with a Dignity Funeral Director.

    How it works

When you choose this option, your cash sum will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limited, rather than to your estate (your estate is any property, possessions or money that you leave when you die). They will use it to pay towards the cost of your funeral and will also contribute an additional £300 towards the final cost of your funeral.

When the time comes, a single call to Dignity will put your funeral arrangements in motion. The Dignity Funeral Director will help your family through the arrangements and the cash sum from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limited.

    Things you should know

    • You can only choose the Funeral Benefit Option if you don’t already have it linked to a current or cancelled plan. This includes any Funeral Benefit Option you may have with another over 50s life insurance provider. If you already have a pre-paid funeral plan you can’t take up this offer and if you were to take out a funeral plan in the future, your Funeral Benefit Option would be cancelled.
    • Your Funeral Benefit Option is linked to your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan so you need to make sure you keep paying your monthly premiums, when due, to benefit from it.
    • If your funeral costs less than the cash sum from your Plan and the £300 contribution combined, any money left over will be paid to your estate by SunLife.
    • If your funeral costs more, your loved ones would need to pay the balance to the Dignity Funeral Director. You need to be aware that inflation will reduce the value of the cash sum and the £300 contribution.
    • If you die within the first two years of the Guaranteed Over 50 Plan, the full cash sum will not be payable. Instead all the premiums already paid plus half as much again would be paid to your estate rather than Dignity. However if Dignity conducts your funeral, your representatives would still be entitled to the £300 contribution.
If you die within the first two years of taking out the plan but as a result of an accident (see sections 3 and 4 of the Guaranteed Over 50 Plan Terms and Conditions) or within 90 days of the accident from injuries sustained in it, you will be entitled to the Accidental Death Benefit and the full cash sum will be paid to your estate rather than Dignity. However if Dignity conducts your funeral your representatives your still be entitled to the £300 contribution.
    • You can cancel the Funeral Benefit Option at any time before Dignity has been instructed to provide the funeral services. In these circumstances you would not be entitled to the £300 contribution.
