Add to your plan at no extra cost for a contribution towards the cost of your funeral

Get £300 toward your funeral costs

If you’re planning to use the cash sum from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan to help cover the costs of your funeral, the Funeral Benefit Option is a great way to put some plans in place – for free. Your cash sum will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limited, who will use your cash sum to pay towards the cost of your funeral, and also contribute £300 towards it.

When the time comes, it couldn’t be simpler for your family. All they’ll need to do is make a single call to Dignity and the Dignity Funeral Director will help them through all the arrangements.


How it works

  • It won’t cost you any more to include the Funeral Benefit Option
  • Your cash sum will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limited when you die, once you have had your plan for two years or more
  • You can cancel the Funeral Benefit Option and your cash sum will be paid to your estate instead
  • The Funeral Benefit Option is linked to your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan. That means Dignity Funerals will not contribute £300 to your funeral if you cancel your policy

What you need to know

Eligibility for the Funeral Benefit Option

You can choose the Funeral Benefit Option if you don’t already have it (either on a plan that’s still running or one that’s been cancelled). This includes any over 50s life cover with another insurance provider.

Funeral Benefit Option isn’t available if you already have a pre-paid funeral plan, and we would cancel your Funeral Benefit Option if you take out a funeral plan in the future.

Paying for your funeral

If your funeral costs less than your cash sum and the £300 contribution combined, we’ll pay any money that’s left over to your estate.

If your funeral costs more, your family would need to pay the balance to the Dignity Funeral Director. Please bear in mind that inflation will reduce the value of the cash sum and the £300 contribution.

Your cash sum

If you die before you have had your plan for two years, we wouldn’t pay out the full cash sum. Instead we would pay out everything you’ve paid in, plus half as much again – to your estate, rather than to Dignity. However, Dignity would still contribute £300 towards the final cost of your funeral if they conduct your funeral.

Your plan comes with Accidental Death Benefit. If you die as the result of an accident (or within 90 days of an accident because of your injuries) before you have had your plan for two years, the full cash sum will be paid to your estate rather than Dignity. Dignity would still contribute £300 towards the final cost of your funeral if they conduct it.

You can cancel the Funeral Benefit Option at any time before Dignity has been instructed to provide the funeral services. If you cancel, Dignity wouldn’t make a contribution towards your funeral costs.

Who provides the Funeral Plans?

The funeral services are arranged by a funeral director selected by Golden Charter Ltd. Golden Charter Ltd are not required to be authorised or regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority or the Prudential Regulation Authority in relation to funeral plans but are registered providers with the Funeral Planning Authority.

If you choose to pay for your funeral in one go, with a single payment, you will have a contract with Golden Charter. The funeral services will be arranged by a funeral director selected by Golden Charter Ltd.

If you choose to pay for your funeral with a life insurance policy, the policy will be provided by AXA Wealth Ltd, trading as SunLife. The funeral services will be arranged by a funeral director selected by Golden Charter Ltd.

Who provides My Smarter (ISA)?

My Smarter (ISA) is provided by Scottish Friendly Asset Managers Limited. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.
