You’re babysitting on a school night. How do you get the grandkids to bed on time?

Easily, they are always very well behaved and never cause any trouble. Countdown to bedtime with a 30-minute/20-minute/10-minute ‘warning’ to prepare them, just like Mum and Dad do. Switch on the new gadget you bought for them - a wireless solar system night light - and watch them nod off... Let them stay up. It’s not every day (or evening) we see each other.

What would be your perfect day out with the grandkids?

Home, the park, anywhere. As long as I’m with my grandkids it doesn’t matter. A sightseeing trip with museums, a bus tour, local treats, and loads of photos to remember it by. Full on fun at an action-packed theme park. Rides galore, all day long followed by a trip to the shop for souvenirs. A trip to the seaside with the whole family. Fish and chips on the prom, rock pooling, and a Mr Whippy before heading home.

Your usually angelic grandkids have been little devils while they’ve been with you. What do you do?

Tell them they won’t have any treats or pocket money that week (and any new toys hidden away until next time). Ban all screen time for the rest of the day as punishment. No TV. No iPad. No games. Explain why Mum and Dad wouldn’t like their behaviour and why you don’t either. Talk through what they’ve done and explain why you didn’t like it, so you quickly move on and enjoy your time together.

Your grandkids are coming to dinner. What do you feed them?

What we are having – they never complain and are very good eaters. We might splash out on a cheeky takeaway. Well, it’s a treat night, isn’t it? Whatever you can get them to eat - you know how fussy kids can be! Something they wouldn’t usually have - like your famous savory pancakes with the secret ingredient.

Christmas is coming and the grandkids have been good. What will Granny and Grampy Claus treat them to this year?

Something that will last them a good few years, not the latest fad. Family tickets for a day out, something you can all enjoy together. A drum kit! Well, you won’t be there after Christmas to hear it, so why not?! We'll try to get them the thing top of their wish list - it's once a year after all.

What do you love most about being a grandparent?

Spoiling them! I love giving them what they want, and they love me for it! Having fun with the grandkids - then giving them back at the end of the day! Spending precious time with the ones closest to my heart. Being able to help my family. I know how much they appreciate it and that means a lot.

Your best friend can’t stop boasting about their favourite grandkid. What do you do?

Let what they say go in one ear and out of the other. Clearly no other grandchild is as amazing as yours. Enjoy a bit of friendly rivalry and rave about your own grandkids too. Wish you lived miles away from your friend - not your family! Invest more cash in your grandkids to help them be even better (if that’s at all possible!)
