What is the Funeral Benefit Option?

The Funeral Benefit Option is a free, optional feature that you can add to your life insurance plan. If you opt in, this means your life insurance payout will go directly to a funeral director, and they will make a contribution towards the cost of your funeral.

How does the Funeral Benefit Option work with my plan?

If you’re planning to use the payout from your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan to help cover the cost of your funeral, the Funeral Benefit Option is a great way to put some plans in place – for free.

Once you've had your plan for a year, your payout will be paid directly to Dignity Funerals Limted to pay towards the cost of your funeral. And they'll also contribute £250 if a Dignity Funeral Director is used to conduct your funeral.

What you need to know

  • If your funeral costs less than your payout and the £250 contribution combined, we'll pay any money that's left over to your estate.
  • If your funeral costs more than your payout and the £250 contribution combined, your family will need to pay the remaining balance to the Dignity Funeral Director. Please bear in mind that inflation will reduce the value of the cash sum and the £250 contribution.
  • If you die before you've had your plan for a year, we won't pay out the full cash sum. Instead, we'll pay out everything you've paid to your loved ones, rather than to Dignity. However, Dignity will still contribute £250 towards the final cost of your funeral if a Dignity Funeral Director conducts your funeral. (Direct Cremations are excluded.)
  • Your Guaranteed Over 50 Plan comes with Accidental Death Benefit. If you die as the result of an accident (or within 90 days of an accident because of your injuries) before you've had your plan for a year, the full payout will be paid to your loved ones, rather than Dignity. Dignity will still contribute £250 towards the final cost of your funeral if they conduct it.
