Human rights and modern slavery

SunLife is a part of the Phoenix Group. Phoenix may be connected to impacts on people across their many roles and are committed to proactively avoiding and addressing harm that may occur through their operations, in how they support customers and colleagues and within their supply chain and investment portfolio.

Phoenix are ambitious in their desire to lead the way in respecting human rights and recognise their responsibility to do this in accordance with:

  • The International Bill of Human Rights
  • The International Labour Organization's (ILO) Core Conventions

Phoenix are committed to aligning with the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights ('UNGPs'), the authoritative global framework on business and human rights, and their ambition is to encourage other organisations to do the same. Phoenix's human rights policy sets out the action they are taking to respect human rights in accordance with the UNGPs.

Phoenix also remains committed to addressing modern slavery, servitude, forced labour, and human trafficking in all its forms and carrying out their business in a fair, honest, ethical and open manner. They comply with all relevant provisions set out in the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015, including publishing an annual Modern Slavery Statement.
