Some moments belong to everyone who witnessed them. The 1966 FIFA World CupTM Final was one of those – a day that stopped the nation and has lived in the memory of everyone who saw it ever since.

This June, to mark 60 years since the momentus win, Channel 4 have broadcast the game for the first time in full colour.

Decades on, it still carries the same charge: the tension, the skill, the sheer drama of it. Whether you watched it the first time round or are discovering it now, this is sport as its most enduring.

We sat down with hat-trick hero, Sir Geoff Hurst, who scored the winning goal for England in 1966. Now the last living player from the starting line-up that day, Geoff reflects on what it meant – in the moment, and across the years since.

He talks about the memories it holds, the stories it’s become and what it means to share those with the people closest to him. It's a reminder that the greatest sporting memories don’t fade. They just find new people to mean something to.

Now you can watch the full event again – or for the first time. Channel 4 has the broadcast in full, produced by Whisper and Final Replay, and we think it deserves to be seen. Brought to you by SunLife.

Watch now on Channel 4.
