SunLife, one of the UK’s best-known financial services companies for over 50s, has announced a new charity partnership with Alzheimer’s Society(www.alzheimers.org.uk opens in a new tab).
The partnership aims to raise money through voluntary employee fundraising to support Alzheimer’s Society’s work, delivering services for people affected by dementia today, and providing hope for the future through groundbreaking research. We are also aiming to explore ways to help staff and customers to learn more about dementia and find out how they can support people affected by the condition, as well as signposting to relevant dementia services and information.
Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity, providing help and hope to everyone affected by dementia. The charity’s goal is to end the devastation caused by dementia.
Dementia is the biggest health and social challenge of our time, and the UK’s biggest killer. There are currently estimated to be almost one million people in the UK living with dementia. This is projected to rise to 1.4 million people by 2040. Many are undiagnosed and do not get the support they need and deserve.
Mark Screeton, SunLife CEO, said: “SunLife and Alzheimer's Society both have a shared goal – to support people to live life with confidence, connection and community. And with dementia sadly being one of the most feared health conditions for the over 50s, it felt like a natural partnership.
“We’re very much looking forward to developing the partnership and exploring the ways we can work together going forward.”
Corinne Mills, Interim CEO at Alzheimer's Society, said:
"We're delighted to announce our partnership with SunLife. With nearly one million people living with dementia in the UK today, and many more affected, we know how vital it is to have partners who share our determination to make a real difference.
“Together, we'll work to fund vital support services and pioneering research that can transform lives. Equally important is our opportunity to help SunLife's colleagues and customers better understand dementia and know where to turn for support when they need it.
“Early and accurate diagnosis remains crucial - yet we know that around one in three people with dementia are still living without a formal diagnosis, missing out on essential treatment, care and support.”
“We're grateful for SunLife's commitment and are excited about what we can achieve together to ensure no one faces dementia alone.”
