Making a Claim

SunLife Limited (as part of the Phoenix Group) are providing this on-line claim option on behalf of Phoenix Life Limited. More information about how Phoenix Life Limited use and secure your data can be found in their Privacy Policy.

If a SunLife customer has passed away and you are their beneficiary, please complete the form below. If their plan had our Funeral Benefit Option added, you could also claim a discount of either £250 or £300, depending on your funeral provider, off the cost of their funeral. If you use the Funeral Benefit Option, the Sum Assured will be paid directly to the funeral provider who will use this to pay towards the cost of the funeral. The funeral provider will apply the discount of £250 or £300 to the funeral bill as applicable. If the Sum Assured is greater than the cost of the funeral SunLife will settle the bill in full from the policy proceeds and any residue will be payable to the estate. To see if the plan did have the Funeral Benefit Option, please check the plan’s most recent annual statement.

You only need raise one bereavement claim through our website which we will process for you as soon as possible. We will contact you direct if there are any queries.

If you have already made a bereavement claim through our Call Centre, rest assured this is being processed now. You do not need to raise another here.

If the policy(s) is still within the moratorium period (first 12 months), then in most cases a return of premiums will be payable. There may be claims where the full sum assured is paid, we will contact to inform you if this is the case. If you wish payment to be made to a funeral provider, please:

  1. Send a copy of the invoice to SunLife, PO Box 1395, Peterborough, PE2 2TR
  2. Ensure the Policy Number is clearly stated on the invoice.
  3. Select the box below to indicate ‘Yes I will be sending an invoice’

Please note that if the funeral invoice is less than the cash sum, any remaining balance will be paid to the beneficiaries. If the cash sum is less than the invoice, we will pay the whole cash sum to the funeral provider and any balance will need to be paid by the next of kin.

Method of Payment

Remember, if their plan had our Funeral Benefit Option added, you could also claim depending on your provider, £250 or £300 discount, off the cost of their funeral. Funeral Benefit Option

If any dispute arises as to the entitlement to the proceeds of any of the deceased policies, or if a valid claim against one or more of those policies is made by another party, you will repay to Phoenix Life some or all of the amount you have received as a result of this claim, upon request from Phoenix Life.

  • Just to make you aware that our mailings are produced 30 days in advance so we do apologise if you receive any mailing in the name of the deceased.
  • Any active direct debits will be cancelled following this notification

The policy proceeds will be paid by Phoenix Life Limited (trading as SunLife).
