What is the Guaranteed Over 50 Plan?

    • Over 50s life insurance is life-long cover, also known as whole of life insurance
    • A fixed cash sum when you die, after you have had your plan for two years
    • If you die in the first two years, we’ll pay out everything you’ve paid in, plus half as much again
    • And Accidental Death Benefit means we'll pay the full cash sum if you die as the result of an accident, even if you’ve had your plan for less than two years
    • No medical, guaranteed (if you’re aged 50–85 and a UK resident)
    • Fixed premiums from just £3.90 a month — the lowest in the market††
    • Your first month’s premium free
    • Two ways to pay – pay for life or choose the Premium Cap Option
    • You must keep paying premiums when they’re due or your plan will end and you’ll get nothing back
    • The cash sum is fixed, so inflation will reduce its value over time
    • Depending on how long you live you could pay in more than the cash sum paid out
    • The SunLife Guaranteed Over 50 Plan is provided by AXA Wealth Ltd

We can't give you advice about whether this plan is right for you, so before you take one out, you should make sure you read our terms and conditions, which has all the information you need about the plan and its risks and benefits.

How much does over 50s life cover cost?

There are two ways you can look at the cost of a Guaranteed Over 50 Plan. You can choose how much you can afford to pay each month, and see how much your plan would pay out in return or you can choose how much you want the plan to pay out, and see how much you’d need to pay in each month. So long as you’re aged 50 to 85, you won’t be turned down as there are no health questions!

Let’s meet Tony and Margaret. They are both 60 years old and want to take out a plan. Tony wants to pay an amount each month that’s comfortable for him, so he chooses to pay £20 a month. This gives Tony £4535 of cover. Margaret on the other hand, wants to leave about £7000 to share between her children and grandchildren. To leave this amount of money she needs to pay £30 per month instead.

So as you can see, you can choose the level of cover and premium that suits you.

That’s another thing we’ve made straightfordable.

How does over 50 life cover work?

The Guaranteed Over 50 Plan is no-medical life insurance so you won’t be asked any health questions at all. So long as you’re aged 50 to 85, you won’t be turned down. Plus, the cash sum paid out for a man and a woman is the same, so long as you’re the same age and pay the same premium.

So how does it work? It’s really straightforward – simply pay into your plan every month, for the rest of your life, and in return the plan will pay out a set amount of money when you pass away. The money can be used to help pay towards funeral costs. Or to leave as a gift for loved ones.

To get the full amount, you just need to have been paying into the plan for two years or more. But remember, if you stop paying your cover would end and you wouldn’t get anything back. If you happen to pass away during the first two years, the plan would pay out all the money you’ve paid in so far, PLUS another 50% on top.

It’s easy to see why we’re the UK’s No.1 choice. So why not join the 640,000 people who already have a plan.

That’s another thing we’ve made straightfordable.

    Frequently asked questions

How much will the Guaranteed Over 50 Plan cost me?

You can choose any premium between £3.90 and £74, as long as your life cover doesn’t exceed £25,000. You’ll pay this amount every month for life, or (if you choose the Premium Cap Option) for the length of time you have agreed to pay premiums. You should choose a premium that you’re comfortable paying – if you stop paying towards your plan, we would have to cancel your plan and you wouldn’t get anything back. You should also remember that, depending on how long you live, you could pay in more than the cash sum we pay out.
